Privacy policy
Last updated 20 October 2026
Chucho is a Spanish learning app run by Callum Pooles in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Contact us any time at support@chuchospanish.com.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password itself.
- Learning data: words you save, flashcard progress, decks, quiz and study history, streaks and goals.
- Settings: your learning level, interests, reminder times and display preferences.
- Feedback: feature ideas you post and votes you give. Ideas are shown to other Chucho users with your display name.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers. We don't use analytics or advertising tools, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
How we use it
Only to run the app: to sign you in, keep your words and progress in sync, choose videos that suit your level and interests, and send the reminders you ask for. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
Microphone and speech
If you practise pronunciation, Chucho uses the microphone only after you tap the mic button. Speech is recognised on your iPhone and the recording is not stored or sent to us.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. You can turn them off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
Services we rely on
- YouTube plays the videos inside the app using YouTube's embedded player, which is covered by Google's privacy policy.
- Google Translate and MyMemory translate words and subtitle lines. Only the text being translated is sent, not your account details.
- Railway hosts our server and MongoDB Atlas stores account data. These providers may process data outside the UK, under appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account (Profile → Settings → Delete account) we delete your account and learning data straight away. Any copies in backups are removed within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing support@chuchospanish.com. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
Chucho is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
